Happy April (Detroit, MI Child Photographer)

April 3, 2011 · Kids, Lessons & Workshops, My Life

On April Fool’s Day my niece and nephew had the day off from school.  I had a great time with them.  We went to the movies and out to lunch.  The boys played video games for a bit while Melanie and I went shopping and made a little time for photo taking.  It had been awhile! LOL!  Here are a couple  from our little play date:

We look forward to seeing you guys in a couple weeks at the workshop! :)

Stay tuned… i have a model post and newborn shoot on my agenda. And, if I haven’t mentioned it, I am SUPER excited for the warm weather and longer days ahead of us.  I have a ton of fabulous sessions coming up!

Online Photography Lesson Samples (Photo Retouching Lessons)

November 17, 2010 · Lessons & Workshops

Good Morning everyone!  I just realized that it has been quite awhile since I have given a shout out to some of my lesson takers out there.  As you may or may not know, I give private one-on-one photography lessons via email to those interested in learning.  Topics range from  Layers, textures, portrait retouching,  to how to take silhouettes or create mood in your images.  The list of lesson topics is quite long!  Skill levels also vary~  I currently am working with complete beginners to established business owners.  I’m flexible and really enjoy helping others take their own imagery to the next level.  I do have a teaching certificate and have always loved guiding others… so this was only a natural thing for me to do.  I have decided to continue giving lessons next year.   My online students are asked to complete camera exercises and photo editing assignments within their individual lessons.  MANY of these lesson and workshop images go on to win awards.  Have a look at a handful of post lesson image submissions:

Images below are copyright their respected artists.  Please do not copy or reproduce in anyway.

If you would like to sign up for an online photography lesson or workshop, please visit my web site:  Education for Creative Minds, Lessons & Workshops to learn more about them!  Or, simply send me a note on facebook or via email.  I would love to work with YOU.  Oh and by the way, both lessons and workshop entries ARE currently available for Holiday gift purchases as well.   Yep, I’m doing at least one more workshop next year, too!  It is  themed: Urban Arts and Drama and will be held April 16th next  year.  Fun, right??  Register soon.  :)

Autumn Love: A MI workshop for photographers

October 18, 2010 · Lessons & Workshops, Senior Portraits & Models, Special Promotions

On Saturday, October 9th, I held a Creative Minds workshop with the theme: Autumn Love.  It was an absolutely amazing experience!  This was my final workshop for 2010 but I have decided to do at least one more workshop in 2011.   I’m so glad I took the time out to host the following workshops this year:  50′s Fashion in Nature,  Boudoir& Swim,  Fantasy,  Whimsy, and Autumn Love.  These workshops featured male/female models, couple models, and child models along with various hair, makeup and wardrobe stylists.  Wonderful photographers joined me from around the country for a fabulous time and I was thrilled to collaborate with such stellar styling teams as well.

I am honestly only planning on doing one workshop next year which will be held on Saturday, April 16th in SE Michigan.  There is a chance I MAY hold one or two more, but for now only one is planned.  This Spring workshop will be a little different than the others I have hosted thus far.  The theme is Urban Art and Drama.  Rather than nature, we will shoot in the city and the styling will be very dramatic and edgy, its all about art and expression.  My team is already in place for this event and it will be a collaboration of insane talent.   SO, If  YOU want to join us- register ASAP while there are still spots available.  If your coming in from out of state, plan your trip now!!   Its about 6 months aways so you have plenty of planning time.  Tuition, additional information and participant testimonials can be found on my Lessons & Workshops web site.   Oh, and anyone who registers before the end of this month will save $50 off tuition.  This is the only time I will offer a special on the Spring 2011 Urban Art and Drama workshop-  there won’t be any specials on future workshops.  Take advantage while you still can.  :)

I got a new fisheye lens and had a blast playing with it at this workshop……. here is just one of many images taken with that lens the day of the workshop:

In addition to working with adult models, we had a handful of children particpate this time, too!   At the start of the kids segment  a tea party was set up in front of the Autumn Woods. Almost all of the images I have included on my Blog here today are in color because the reds, oranges and yellows of Fall are too beautiful to ignore; however, this next shot I prefer in black and white. It speaks more of the moment.

The kids had some fun with the fallen leaves, fishing poles, rocks, balloons and pretty much anything they could get their cute hands on :)

And here is a group shot for fun!  I think there are about (4) participants not pictured, but you get the idea ….

I’m SUPER proud of the photographer participants this time around. We had a GREAT time- I saw some old friends and made some new.  If you would like to view more images from this workshop, visit my gallery on Facebook or check out the following photographer’s albums/blogs.  Keep in mind that we are all at different levels and on unique time schedules. More images are being worked on throughout the upcoming weeks.  Here are some links to keep an eye on:  Jennifer , Tressie, Sherry, Deb, Sandy, Sarah and myself.

Stay tuned for more upcoming blog posts!  I have awesome images of a recent bride+groom, engagement session, and an artsy/dramatic model session still to share.  Plus I have some kids/family shoots this week.  The Fall is definitely a busy time for photographers!!!  If you’re local and want Autumn images of yourself, kids or family- I will fit you in.  Email me ASAP at jenlynnalder@aol.com   :)

Ethereal Art (Northville, MI Artistic Photography)

October 7, 2010 · Adult Portraits, Fantasy (Fairy, etc...), Lessons & Workshops, Senior Portraits & Models

On the flip side of moody dramatic photography, I also enjoy doing ethereal type pieces from time to time.  I like taking images to the next level, whether dark and dramatic or fantasy filled gorgeousness.  Last month I worked with two lovely models and make up artists that shows this sort of work using natural light.   Of course we did a ton of planning.  :)   Have a look- they are actually some of my favorite images to date:

With this look we were going for an winter princess fantasy sort of concept….

And with this concept, we tried to create art that was both free spirited and statuesque at the same time

Thanks a ton for stopping by!  If you are local and wanting an artistic photography session like this, call me!  We’ll set something up.  Or if you’re looking to join a workshop + take a lesson- message me soon.  I have limited availability at this time.

Stay tuned for some upcoming posts on: Male models, Boudoir/Body Paint and then a workshop!

Photo Projects + Events (Northville, MI Artistic Portrait Photographer)

October 5, 2010 · Adult Portraits, Lessons & Workshops, My Life, Senior Portraits & Models

It’s been a little while since I blogged last. Not weeks and weeks…  but a little longer than usual, I admit it. The truth is, I don’t even know where to start. Seriously.  To begin with,  I redesigned my website (still in process) and that meant I had to do some new artistic work.  I went on a DOZEN new shoots within the past 6 weeks.   All of the images I took were not posted anywhere until October 1st.   There are so many shoots I’m not sure how I’m going to post them.  Obviously I won’t post them one-by-one. LOL.  I will maybe break it up into a few short posts- starting today! If you take a moment to look at my site and blog, you will notice that they have changed a bit.   I’m not totally done with it but will be within the month.    There are many new images and the focus is now on Artistic Photography Sessions and Education.  My goal is to transform the ordinary in client portrait sessions.  I’m not the photographer to visit if you want standard shots.  Whether dramatic or drop dead gorgeous,  I simply like to take photos to another level.

And in the world of education, I welcome working with photographers of all skill levels  for personal development.  My online lessons, workshops or mentoring will definitely help you get to the next level in your photography.  With the launch of my new site also came a newly announced SE Michigan Spring Photography workshop!  The theme is:  Urban Art and Drama.  Registration is now open.  It will be held on Saturday, April 16th, 2011.  Make travel plans and register soon because next year I will be doing a very limited number of workshops- and it may even be the only one.   (Vegas and Portland options are still being considered)  I am so super excited about it.

In keeping with the upcoming art and drama theme, I’m going to share with you a few images from recent sessions that flaunt a little mood…

I had A GREAT time collaborating with very skilled artists to get these shots.  Love the team of talent that works side by side with me.   If you think this sort of moody stuff is fun, come to my workshop next Spring.  It’ll be a blast.

What else?  Hmmmmm.  Well,  I had a couple regularly scheduled shoots last week and a also shot a wedding with my friend, Tressie Davis.  And I am giving online lessons still to a couple of photographers- but that stuff is not even close to being blog ready.  :)   Oh, and I almost forgot.  I am doing all of this while trying to schedule the last minute details for my last workshop of the year:  Autumn Love, which will be held THIS Saturday.  OMG!   Overwhelmed a little over here. But don’t worry, its in a good way.  Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for more posts.

I’ve got lots of stuff to share these days…. Can you believe I’m getting requests to do a personal post each week- like stuff I like, etc….  what do you think?  Yes or No?  Wouldn’t that just be boring?
