A model session with Jessica and Kaiya (Michigan, Photography)
February 12, 2011 Adult Portraits, Boudoir
The last week of January, I met up with a couple of local models and stylists for a fun photoshoot. I had been contacted by the wonderful, Lindsey Smith (make up artist extraordinare from Grand Rapids) several weeks earlier. She expressed interest in collaborating on some new photos so I got in touch with Jessica and Kaiya (the models) and she contacted her super talented hairstylist friend, Rochelle, to join us. I wanted to keep the wardrobe simple, yet feminine. Here is what we came up with:
Jessica and that gorgeous red hair of hers….
The lovely Kaiya….

And a couple shots of them together…..

Currently I am working on a Senior Portrait session and some commercial modeling shots- stay tuned! My facebook Winter Kids Give-a-way (see post below) ends tonight at 11:59pm EST. I’m working on a few local collaborations and putting together the final details for my Spring workshop: Urban Arts and Drama. Care to join us? Yes, you read that right- Lynn rocks. lol. I’m not sure how else to really put it. She really does. She is a local model that you may have seen me feature in a session or workshop. We have worked together a handful of times and always connect well. We have plans to do so more shooting, so stay tuned. Our latest session was an indoor studio one with Marissa Najor as stylist and it produced some really fun images for our portfolios. Have a look, since we did like 4 1/2 looks there are quite a few to share today:
We started out with a natural look with the black furry wrap and a red lip:

And then pulled up the hair and added a little more drama to her eyes using back accessories…..
And for the next look added a super fun headband and amazing eye makeup, whimsical white lace top and leggings:

Finally, we did the dramatic wet look with wardrobe garment by the Marilyn Monroe collection-
This shot was unintentional and turned out to be a favorite of mine… fun, right?

And slicked back….
Thanks so much for stopping by! Stay tuned for more upcoming posts and a contest is on the way (for kids!). Have a great day.

So, as most of you know by now… it is winter. Its cold outside, baby! And because of the cold temperatures + lack of light past 5pm, I have decided to play with studio lighting this year. I have a handful of photoshoots lined up for both January and February to practice light/shadow technique and experiment with new ideas. These shoots will most likely be more editorial or Boudoir themed. Have a look at some of my images from last week with Maria and Cara:
Such lovely girls to work with!

Remember, I am also currently working on a photo series project and have lots of other shoots lined up this month, so stay tuned!

I know I have forever been a fan of natural light but this year I have become more open to using strobes + studio lighting to create beautiful images. I mean, lets face it, this IS Michigan. The sun sets at 5:30pm for at least 1/3 of the year (or so it seems) and I am not always willing to wait for the sun to come up again before shooting. LOL!
Additionally, I like the idea of offering another option to my clients. Studio light images can be super crisp, display dramatic lighting well and give an entirely different look to photos than natural light. I felt it would be a nice addition to offer boudoir clients, high school seniors, brides and newborns. So last weekend I experimented with it a little and made a new investment in my business. I organized a little get together of models, makeup artists/hairstylists and Tressie Davis ( a FABULOUS photographer and friend that works weddings + workshops with me) to learn a little about studio lighting with Alien Bees and Softboxes. And to make that learning extra fun, us girls reserved a 2 bedroom suite at the Marriott, munched on cheeses, sipped wine+champagne and had a BLAST. The team of talent was amazing….
If you follow my work at all, you will recognize Lynn (a fav model for sure!). Hair and makeup done by Amanda Rita

Gorgeous, right?
And we were also joined by the lovely Melissa. Hair and Makeup done by Jessica D- LOTS of talent there.
And a second, more vintage inspired look on this lovely lady….

Hope you all enjoyed the little glance into our weekend of fun. And yes……. this means I am now booking studio sessions- available later in the day and indoors during the winter.
Stay tuned for another modeling session and some Holiday cheer.
